MEET JEFF.
Jeff Kahrs, a fourth-generation Kansan who grew up in Wichita, is committed to lead the charge in the fight to restore the values of Faith, Family and Freedom representing the people of Kansas in Washington, D.C.
Values Learned Early
Spending summers and holidays on the family farm, Jeff learned early the value of contributing effort through hard work, perseverance and a sense of personal responsibility. These down-to-earth principles have been the driving force
that has guided Jeff into public service since a young age. He was elected student body president at both Wichita High School East and Wichita State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Business in Business Management. Upon completion of his undergraduate work, Kahrs went on to earn his Juris Doctor with honors at Washburn University School of Law, serving as research editor on the Washburn Law Review.
Soon after, he served for two years as law clerk for the Chief Justice of the Kansas Supreme Court.
A Record of Service
President Trump appointed Kahrs Director of Region 7 of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in 2017. As a presidential appointee, Kahrs provided executive leadership as the primary representative to the Secretary of Health
and Human Services, overseeing HHS activities in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and working with nine indigenous tribes.
Before joining state government, Kahrs spent 16 years as a congressional staff member, working as a legislative director for U.S. Congressman Todd Tiahrt of Kansas, eventually becoming Tiahrt’s chief of staff in 2000. In that role, he developed extensive knowledge of the House appropriations process.
Most recently, Kahrs served as a Senior Advisor and District Director for Congressman Jake LaTurner. Prior to that, he worked as the Deputy Secretary and Chief of Staff for the Kansas Department for Children and Families. He led the effort to transform the state’s outdated social services agency into one that promotes healthy families and encourages personal responsibility.
Deep Military Family Ties
Kahrs' military ties run deep with a father who was a U.S. Marine. His older brother is a retired Colonel from the U.S. Air Force and a former Kansas State Air Surgeon. He has two nephews who are U.S. Marines, and a niece who is currently in the U.S. Space Force.
Fighting for Freedom
Kahrs’ commitment to “Faith, Family and Freedom” galvanizes his resolve to make the voice of Conservative Kansans heard on Capitol Hill. If elected to represent the people of the 2nd Congressional District of Kansas, Kahrs stands guard, ready and equipped to fight for those same down-to-earth and commonsense ideals instilled in him from the beginning.
Kahrs and his wife Felita live in Topeka with their sons, Samuel and William, where they are active members of the Topeka Baptist Church.
